Born April 27, Shangjiang Village, Jiangxi Province.
1964 Attended the
Art Group, sponsored by the municipal children's palace.
1966 Cultural
Revolution began. Studied painting at home.
1967 Studied
sketching and colour use under the guidance of Hong Shutong,
his first tutor.
1968 Joined
the army. Successively worked as a warehouse man,
swine breeder and
secretary.
1970
Demobilised in April. Began working in the Nanchang Postal
Vehicle Factory,
first as a warehouse man, then carpenter, pipe fitter
and publicity
department store employee. Tookpart in the gigantic
painting of
Chairman Mao at the city square.
1972 Involved
in artistic activities organised by the city government.
Works shown in
municipal and provincial exhibitions.
1974 Enrolled
in the Oil Painting Department at the
Central Academy of
Fine Arts.
1975 Painted
at Nankou Railway Locomotive Factory and at an army camp
in Henan.
1977 Returned
to the Central Academy as a tutor.
1978
Appointed to the faculty of the Oil Painting Department of the Central
Academy of Fine
Arts shortly after graduation in April.
1979
Transferred to teach in the Art Department at the
Central Institute
of Drama.
1980 Selected
for the exhibition held by the Chinese Artist's Association at
the China Art
Gallery, Beijing.
1982 Painting
Time was exhibited in an exhibition held by the Biejing
Artist's
Association.
1984 Painting
Ancient Fortress was exhibited at the
Sixth National Art
Exhibition; further studied in the Oil Painting
Workshop at the
Central Academy of Fine Arts.
1986 Painting
Lama shown in the First National Oil Painting Exhibition
sponsored by the Chinese
Artist's Association, Beijing.
1988
Organised and exhibited paintings in The Ten-Men Art Show held at the
